Bro alienated the rest of the fam after mom died and my father hardly interacts with his grandkids, even though my brother continues to reach out. It’s fucking heartbreaking.
But what you said is 100% correct imo - They are the family now, The rest of it is all just noise. If OP Doesn’t make it a thing and makes sure the house is filled with love the kids won’t know any different really.
