We want to love this. We want to celebrate. A baby is precious.

But I can’t stop thinking about what that baby just endured: the first bond they’ve ever known being severed, taken from their birth mother, and placed into the arms of a stranger.

I think of the mother in the other room. Empty. Her body confused, because it was designed to hold, feed, and comfort the baby it just made… and now there’s nothing. A wound she will carry for the rest of her life, even if she consented.

I think of the siblings that child has that were created too… then frozen indefinitely, discarded, or destroyed because they didn’t “make the cut.”

So much pain. So much trauma. So much tragedy. And it was all avoidable.

We didn’t have to do this to children. We didn’t have to violate their rights. We chose to - because adult desire was treated as more important than a child’s well-being.

We celebrate that the baby survived and is alive. We celebrate their life. But we refuse to celebrate the industry that harmed them and killed millions of others.
