The full movie is available for free on YouTube and I encourage you to watch it and join me for a discussion ITT. I enjoyed it very much and have had fun thinking autistically about the mechanics of how that world would work and what I would do differently if I were Ethan Hawke's character.

For one thing I think Ethan Hawke's scientist friend Chris was probably justified in trying to suppress the "cure" for vampirism in favor of wide distribution of a blood substitute. The "cure" was going to lead to the immediate, horrific, violent deaths of hundreds of millions as wave after wave of vampires eat the preceding wave which just turned human from eating a cured human. And even worse, the survivors of that initial phase will have lost their immortality. It would be far preferable to let everyone stay immortal and survive on the blood substitute.

Yeah, Sam Neil's Pharma CEO character Charles Bromley said they're going to keep collecting a little bit of real human blood for the wealthy elite, but that's a problem to solve at a later date. The elites are going to do horrible evil stuff whether they're vampires or humans, you don't need to throw out the baby of immortality with the bathwater of elite vampirism.

It was littered with funny but thought provoking snippets of the wider world. A background newscast says forest fires are a big problem because vampire hikers keep staying out too long and bursting into flame at sunrise. A 1-second photo of a chimp with vampire teeth on whom they're running some tests, prompting me to consider what it would mean for every organism to be susceptible to vampirism. A well-thought-out cure requiring a vampire to be exposed to the sun but plunged into water immediately before he can burn to ash.
