This person has probably entertained the possibility of law school for about 20 minutes total. They just don't know anything about it. They thought of the TTT because it is local and easy to get in. They asked for my advice.

That angry Cooley JD grad who got distracted from her hunger strike still has a job. If she can get a job your friend probably can too.

wont work. your friend has already decided to go and will be convinced it's really a good idea and you just dont really know what you're talking about.

also, it's hard for a lot of people to conceptualize what it will be like to be heavily indebted and unemployed/underemployed when it seems so far away.

I think if you sat this kid down with their employment stats and explained why they are bullshit, then discussed the reality of shitlaw and insurance defense work, it might have an impact. I had no idea so many lawyers had such shit careers when I started.

With IBR, the crushing debt argument carries less weight, but going over the numbers can't hurt.

Friend: Man, those guys on this board are all retarded assholes.

OP (poasting furious in other room): Yeah, seriously!

I agree with the previous poster who said to explain to him the reality of working in Shitlaw and doing insurance defense work. What the fuck do people in Shitlaw even do all day? There HAS to be a lot of down time.

Direct him to FINAID.ORG, have him use the loan calculator with the payment schedule appearing on the screen. Maybe if he sees he'll be paying 15k a year for a decade he'll be discouraged.
