Three years of post-graduate education at an expensive school then you make a flat like $120k forever shoveling pills into little bottles while proles ask you to ring up doritos and complain because they can't afford their oxy pills or w/e

got licensed at a comm college and worked as a pharmacy tech in high school because it made $18/hr

the pharmacist was this old guy who shuffled around constantly muttering "death to smoochy" that D- Robin Williams movie from the early 2000's

very kooky experience

I think people who do it know what they're getting into. A completely risk-free boring middle-class job for life. Can live and work in a low-cost area.

yeah I assume if you are a pill pusher at walgreens you just go home at 5 and are completely off the clock without any worries, earning 130k in raleigh. thats a cr lifestyle for many people

Being truly off the clock is a pretty nice part of being a pharmacist, yeah

But 'getting off at 5' is a pipe dream. There's a considerable amount of nights & weekends in virtually every pharmacist jerb.

I know one who works at a walgreens. He says the most stressful part of his job is when he has to act as the de facto manager of the entire store and deal with customers about the other products in the store

a really terrible job if you're not a robot, but plenty of people are. and they don't need postgrad education; it's 120k right out of college.

yeah but they don't need to. you can get a license in most places with a bs. pharmd is an extra year or two of clinical studies and can get you into fancier hospital type stuff, but most of the retail guys are bsers.

edit: just realized i may be out of date. noticed my local pharm school doesn't even offer a bs anymore, but the state will still license you with just a bs.

anyway 90% of these people should be replaced by vending machines. there have been trials that show they make fewer errors.

It’s the relative earnings of these people vs what they could make in the available alternative options. Making 120k as pharmacist seems god-tier rich to a $60k public schoolteacher or generic do-nothing state government employee.

a friend of mine from HS is a pharmacist in the small town I grew up in.

very low CoL there. she paid off her mortgage in her early 30s. she lives a stress-free life and is extremely comfortable. its not a bad gig if you have decent people skills and can deal with monotony in your job.

Plopping down a thick cut ribeye steak on the pharmacy counter for them to ring up is an alpha move
