Are the big games still COD, WOW, Fortnite? Things like that?

And is the essential activity wandering a map and getting in gunfights?

Starting to really think AI + feminism will completely lock young men out of employment starting in about 4 years. Not just "a tough hiring market", but rather that they will never have careers, ever.

Which makes me think that video-gaming will probably explode in popularity and be the bulk of what 20-30s men do every day, maybe for the rest of theyre lives.

And got me wondering what life, in particular, video games offer them. Is it the experience of wandering, sniping, and shooting opponents? Is that the optimized male fantasy life?

The stuff you’re talking about out isn’t in the “wait 5 years,” category.

I remember my internal dialogue during ITE was basically “if a Woman or a URM or an Indian can do the job I’m not getting it but dammit I still have to Interview…” and it was true then and it’s true now. Losers Lose.

Yes but some % of ITErs found employment with advancement possibilities.

I think the 5 year idea is that something like 80-90% of dudes find themselves completely and totally locked out of things that are not DoorDash.

but more to the point, as a gaming MFE, Im curious about your perspective. if you optimized a game for a 32 year old nowork, would it be a solitary avatar wandering a map to shoot enemies? Is the reason this is every game plot because it has been optimized already? a solved problem

I'm not Cowgod, but in a lot of ways you can just look at a game like GTA 5 online (all men) and even Red Dead Redemption 2. Sense of adventure + goals to accomplish + gun fights. GTA 6 may legit never come out because they make like $1 billion in profit on GTA 5 online alone.

It’s basically just Xbox’s fault. 3D Cameras were janky in console games in the 90s-early 00s. Halo solved the problem. Games are played with analog and shoulder buttons now. You control the camera constantly. This way, lazy Engineers don’t have to Engineer a proper camera. The constantly-player-controlled camera feels best in first person view.

Half-life 1 (100 GOTY awards!) and other games by and for Engineers legitimized FPSs. Xbox took them to the mass market of Scum. Other genres followed suit. RPGs. Skyrim. Fallout 3. BioShock. Fucking Metroid. Xbox’s legacy in this regard is Huge.

Imho FPSs are just an easy way to make Games. In terms of “platonic ideal of Game for westerners” GTA is a closer fit because you can just Kill and ngaf and also build up your net worth by doing jobs for Scum and villainy.

You are one of my favorite poasters, but I think you have AI backwards in this regard. AI is likely to nuke a huge portion of female-centric jobs. It'll take a decade, but the initial hiring pipeline for email girls is going to disappear completely.

That and I think we will see a lot of "offline" stuff emerge that is hard to foresee now. People will eventually "monetize" (sorry) the nostalgia that exists for the 90s and 2000s.

This will all benefit men, IMO.

Video games offer a sense of reward and achievement utterly absent from male employment sectors. It should be no wonder that men would rather play video games all day than “work”, and I proudly include myself in that cohort.

i get that, but am particularly interested in the class of achievement, which seems to an outside pretty narrow in scope.

E.g. youre not building edifices for character legacy or hunting for nourishment of your character, etc., in most of these games, right?

Youre a gunman. Seems like if anything were more satisfying, we would know by now

there are all kinds of games. the survival genre is literally about hunting for nourishment of your character, and building edifices is common across many genres. just look at Minecraft ffs.

Minecraft is a great example of what I'm talking about. It's an FPS because it's an FPS. It's an FPS because "3D game" + "western developed" = FPS.

In 2001, Kojima's Engineers were designing exquisite camera angles in MGS2 that never needed adjusting while Bungie was like "just make the fuckin' player adjust the camera Constantly."

one of the games you listed doesnt even have modern "gunman" stuff in it at all

weird thing about XO is how ppl will entertain any sort of take without much scrutiny lol

you should focus more on the gaming as a lifestyle / no jobs part of the post. already a huge amount of ppl on social welfare doing this

no lol. this was a brief era and there have been a lot of retrospectives showing that the DoD (a non-gamer institution, largely staffed by gamers) had its hands in the matter to crank up recruitment numbers (it worked)

the basic unifying fantasy for games is in activities that aren't really "taboo" but are still near impossible to do in today's world for reasons of political/social/cultural malaise or proscription.

for example, exploration. if you wanted to go explore an uncharted and exotic land in 1996 (a very common male experience in prior eras) the closest thing you had was the internet or maybe you'd get a 1/100000000 roll on your anthropology department's mission to the amazon.

you also get a lot of historical "what if's?" that attract both free thinkers and reactionaries and revolutionaries of all sorts that get to sort of experience some simulacrum of what e.g. a soviet city planner's life was like, or a renaissance era burgher, or whatever
