there's a great candidate except that he is a liberal arts major. I asked him whether he's good with numbers. he said he's not bad at it but has not taken any substantive math classes. i looked at his transcript which shows that he got an A in a basic statistics class at a school that is not known for grade inflation.

what do you learn in basic statistics class at college? shall I trust that he will not fuck up his tasks if he gets hired?

Basic stats is like SD, SE, CLT, etc.

The more appropriate question is whether he understands discounting and excel, rofl.

we are not expecting people to perform very complicated tasks. however, there are liberal arts majors who are complete idiots

basic stats are, honestly, a fucking joke at most schools. an A doesn't prove his competence in any way

you're obviously not hiring him to do anything sophisticated. go ahead and hire him; a basic stats course is more than enough for your purposes.

i have not taken a stat class before. I have no knowledge as to whether someone who is bad at math can get an A.

I am not looking for someone who is a math genius as we are not asking him to do anything sophisticated. I just want someone who is passable and/or at least reasonably good iwth numbers.

youre going to have to figure out exactly what he learned in that class. have him send you the syllabus, youre going to have to look at it line by line.

a mix of everything.

not complicated, but we don't want someone to mess things up. there are too many liberal arts majors who are complete idiots in math.

Score? The difference between say a 730 and an 800 is 3 questions typically (57 out of 60). If it's above 700+, it should be sufficient to suggest he's not a math tard.

lolno.

It assesses his PRE-university competence in 7th grade math.

I got 700 M (93%) in 2007. Took the GRE cold in 2011, got 570 M (40%).

Granted, GRE assesses conceptual understanding and SAT assesses mechanical application, but you get my point.

i think sat is a rough indicator of ones ability, though.

it can distinguish between the tards and non-tards if OP is just seeking someone who is fairly good with humbers.

How is someone with no experience or training in what you want him to do a "great candidate"?

It sounds like you yourself do not know much about finance.

there are plenty of people who get hired into IB with lulzy math experience as long as they can memorize a bunch of facts about finance. pre-ITE i remember seeing philosophy majors and shit do IB
