I know you fancy yourselves educated critical thinkers. Although not reported by the CNN article, CX12 has a long history of insightful commentary on non-political subjects. Given an adequate time to prepare (and even not really requiring that), Charles would smoke you before any fair audience on any issue.

Finally, consider that at it's root, Charles' crime wasn't what he wrote in some throwaway moment at home or work, it was really not sufficiently concealing his identity.

Someone with a better sense of how cancel culture would evolve post-2014 would not have done that. Is that really a better world for you and your children to exist in?
