Beltran a lock for 2026. I hate the idea that you can just creep up over 10 years.

i don't mind that there's a built-in way to create hierarchy among inductees. the hof would be smaller with a shorter window but there would be dilution regardless, shittier players would just get voted in earlier. at least there is still cache to first-ballot induction and some voters consciously withhold votes early on even if they anticipate voting in favor down the line. i agree ten years is probably too long.

Vlad in 2018 (Hoffman third)

https://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/hof_2018.shtml#all_hof_BBWAA

Piazza took FOUR times lol boomers really hated him I guess

Biggio third ballot despite 3000 hits, ballot wa super crowded though with steroids and schilling. Same for Barry Larkin

Roberto Alomar 90 percent on second ballot

https://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/hof_2011.shtml#all_hof_BBWAA

Ryne Sandberg 3rd ballot

Carlton Fisk 2nd ballot

https://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/hof_2000.shtml#all_hof_BBWAA

Rollie Fingers 2nd ballot

https://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/hof_1992.shtml#all_hof_BBWAA

A few thirds before that too. Stopped at 1978 with FIFTH ballot hall of famer Eddie Matthews

ty for this scholarship. aside from 1st, is 10th the mode (i.e., next most common)? would love to see a chart of ballot # on the x axis and # of inductions on the y axis.

seems like very few 2nd balloters, especially in recent times where there's already been ballot inflation.

Wrapping up, firstcomers next year are very WEAK Cole Hamels only one likely to get any support (and while his WAR is OK, his awards/counting stats are lacking).

So I think that means Beltran is in. Probably aggressive push for Andruw Jones. Utley could get a big jump too

https://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/hof_2026.shtml

2027 is also very weak too

jones' first 8 ballots:

2018 BBWAA ( 7.3%)

2019 BBWAA ( 7.5%)

2020 BBWAA (19.4%)

2021 BBWAA (33.9%)

2022 BBWAA (41.4%)

2023 BBWAA (58.1%)

2024 BBWAA (61.6%)

2025 BBWAA (66.2%)

would be the most pathetic limp-in?

walker got 10.2% on his first ballot. any future HOF get under 10% on his first ballot?
