so basically no one has ventured within ~0.5% of the Earth-Moon distance for more than half a century. Do I have that right?

Excuse me they are called “dialators”

Which is somehow an even funnier word than dildo. In my mind, dildo recalls an old English song refrain, which is probably the sound you make when a dildo is inserted in you. La da dee dill do!

Dialator has a hilarious pseudo medical context that only highlights the barbarity of “gender reassignment surgery” where genitals are literally turned inside out and “neovaginas” (a.k.a. permanent, open wounds) need to be plugged with silicone on the regular to not close up.

It’s kind of crazy how big and empty space actually is. It must have been terrifying to be hurtling across the void in a tin can.

And that's just going right next door. Going to Mars would take months, even years in some cases. Reaching the nearest star would take thousands of years.

Right now Mars is more than 2x the distance from Earth than the sun. Mars is like 1000x the distance from earth to the moon right now.

The surface temperature of the moon, by the way, was about 250 degrees fahrenheit. Since their spacesuits were white - they reflected most of the sun's heat and they also had a water cooling system and air conditioners in their backpack.

The lander had a B&W TV camera mounted outside. The video was sent as a slow-scan (lower quality & bandwidth) TV signal to a massive antenna in Australia - NASA then converted that slow-scan video into normal TV format and broadcasted it live all around the world. That's how 600 million people watched the moon landing live!
