Not at all and afaik it's the software. Windows XP or 2000? Very snappy in basic navigation on any processor

This shit bricks my computer with every other update. I've had to run more system restores this year alone than I have in my entire life

It runs as clunky as MacOS does now

Also "Edge" is basically spyware, it's constantly sucking up core power, and you have to go above and beyond to fully disable it. Plenty of other default programs like that too

I recently installed Windows 10 on a new computer, because I already had a USB installer for it. I expected to just click "upgrade" after I installed it. But the computer ran so much better I couldn't believe it. Everything is just normal.

I would do this in a heartbeat if I could find my USB key

11 is unusable and far worse than Vista but consumer apathy keeps there from being enough momentum in complaints for M$CAM to actually be forced to do anything

It's really wonderful. Today I had to install Snip & Sketch because the old Windows 10 snipping tool really does suck. I was worried MS would say it's not backward compatible, but they let me install it.

Also with 11 they somehow fucked up "compatibility mode" and now hundreds of programs made in the 00s or earlier don't work right or at all

My Thinkpad from 2004 could open up a word doc and start typing away faster than a top of line thinkpad from 2024. It’s insane when you take a step back to think about how bad software has gotten despite exponential leaps in hardware

The "crisis of competency" has a strong basis in demographic issues but I guess libs still aren't ready to admit that yet

This is largely a result of all the OS-based apps now making constant calls to cloud servers to do everything, often running into issues with firewalls, etc. while doing so.

I stopped using Acrobat because something that should have taken 10 seconds would take 4 minutes. The mind fuck is that Adobe's browser Acrobat product is perfectly fast for me. Should be the other way around.

There's a compelling argument that the internet itself is the root of the problem. Web browsers consume a ton of computing power because they have to load tons of ads and multimedia content now. Old PCs have trouble loading a lot of web pages.
