Bought it on sale for $33 at the RL Store on Bleecker

Aqua/White color

http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3511056&cp=2943767.1766321&ab=ln_nodivision_cs7_sportshirts&parentPage=family

Pretty good result (this was the result of my "need new going out shirt" thread last week)

Unless you're in poor town, I have no idea why they'd COMPLIMENT you on that shirt. It's not a totally shit shirt, but it is by no means impressive or even nice.

It's a nice shirt but it doesn't seem unusual enough to draw that many compliments. I didn't think people paid that much attention to guys' clothes, unless they were wearing something really eye-catching.

It depends.

Good thing about RL logos is that you can color coordinate with the logo if you want.

I've been trying to move away from logos, but RL's patterns, colors, and fits work very well for me. Logo is small enough to where it doesn't really matter.

I agree about RL. The shirt quality is just much higher than something from J. Crew, for instance, and the fit and colors are terrific. The pony is a little aggravating for me, though.

Buttondown collars are one of many credited styles, especially on sports shirts. It's more of a preppier style, which does well in a lot of places.

Gingham is "fresh" now? Yes, practically brand new. I don't have any problem with the shirt, I don't care for button down collars personally, but mainly I take issue with the fact that he bought it because he thought it was "preppy" and he seems to try to construct a persona he thinks people will accept. Also I will echo the "LOL" at Express.

Are you seriously trolling for Express? Every other week their shirts are marked down to < $20, they look like cheap shit (indistinguishable from H&M), and they are poorly made. You'd be better off advocating GAP.

I have no problem with being into fashion and wanting to look nice. I think that is a good idea for everyone, however you are right there is no need to post you clothes purchases (or prospective purchases) and ask for feedback/compliments. You should be sure enough of your own style and taste to pick things out without needing outside affirmation and praise.

Men (non homo) shouldn't be "into fashion". I'm sorry, but this isn't acceptable. Looking nice is fine, but men are supposed to be men. This means you look nice by going to the gym, and picking up some clothes you think looks decent, but straight men shouldn't be following fashion trends or thinking things like "OMG, that shirt is so last year!". That's for gay men. And seriously, I respect their community and its interesting quirks, but we're not supposed to be like that. /rant

That's not what I mean by "being into fashion." I mean knowing how to dress yourself and present yourself in the best possible manner. Knowing not to get square toed Kenneth Cole's and a T-Shirt with Wolves on it. I don't advocate trend hopping. That's a good way to end up with a lame, dated wardrobe. Emphasis on classic staples and having your clothes made as opposed to label whoring.

It's not like threads like this are anything new on the board. Check out the ones about suits and rubber soled shoes and flip flops. In contrast, I think the girls here have been mocked enough for discussing expensive designer shit that the only women's clothes threads these days are fairly short, and about reasonably-priced stuff.

I think it was in large part because the handful of women who liked $1000 handbags got called frivolous whores every time they started those threads. About half of them seem to have quit posting altogether. The few who are left don't really bother to post threads anymore because most of the other girls who are still here don't care, so the posts never get more than a couple replies.

Oddly, guys here seem to have gotten much more dandyish in the past couple years.

See, real men are supposed to care about shit like engines, performance, off-roading, etc. They're not supposed to care about shit like environmental friendliness, whether something is "in" or not, etc. Its nothing like either a Prius or a bug. my choice of cars, given the circumstance of being a student, was influenced almost entirely by value to price ratio. not a label whore about cars whatsoever.

sorry that i didn't let "manliness" guide me into something that i can drive in ARE COUNTRY, i guess.

please feel free to start a thread about how the Liberty is the manly choice.

Subject: EDIT: This was supposed to be to Reality's post

I'm driving a Jeep Liberty and my next car will be a Grand Cherokee. When I lived in NYC I lived in about as unfashionable of a neighborhood as it gets. Does it sound like that's what I'm doing?

Really? I think I just had a better idea of the reasons why Tebow's life kind of sucks and why I wouldn't want it. Everyone else was like "OMG OMG OMG, if I'm Tebow I'll be fucking a different 10 every night and just playing football for fun and making tons of cash!" - none of which would be true for a variety of reasons (ultra-religious, playing football for a career is very stressful, etc.). Everyone here knows the downsides of being a law partner.

In any event, I don't think this makes me particularly mature. I still value immature things - cars, money, titties. Mature people want shit like kids and to settle down. I'm the opposite of that.

this isnt a knock on you, but the response to your shirt can be 100% attributed to your being black and the kanye west urban prep thing being really in these days. a white guy would look like a faggot going clubbing in a ralph lauren button down aqua gingham shirt.

A. What do you tip your doorman?

B. I'm thinking of buying a Ralph Lauren Polo that has my Ivy on the sleave available at the school book store. Go for it?

Looks like the trash that dudes at fucking Texas A&M wear to football games. Lulz at an untucked button down shirt with jeans. What kind of a redneck fuck are you?

Lulz; been wearing RL since I was in middle school, and nothing wrong with a sharp gingham shirt

on the contrary: no white guy would get into a club wearing that shirt untucked w/ jeans and desert boots, on account of looking like some state school fratboy or IT nerd. conversely, a black guy who wears conventionally nice, subtle tailored clothes risks looking like a security guard or salesman.

i'm sort of envious of black doods in this regard. jay z can go out to dinner in brown prince of wales check 3-piece suits w/ lavender gingham shirts, bright pocket square, diamond jewelry, hockey puck sized watch, exotic leather shoes, etc etc. and come off as stylish. if i tried anything remotely similar you'd assume i was a pimp or an actor in costume.

I'm not a fan of the pony logo.

A monogrammed bespoke shirt would be a better choice.

The shirt would be better without the logo, but the fit/color/pattern is great for a shirt I got for $30.

Also, monograms are douchey for sports shirts and really only work for older professionals

Monograms are great as long as they're not on the cuff...those really make me shudder.
