How much of a boost is this to a resume, assuming you're otherwise a TTT and you want to practice in the area of your article?

As a student in your TTT law review it is a slight boost, if you write something worthwhile in your practice area and get it in a decent law review, then it is a significant boost.

How about something worthwhile in my area in a TTT law review not at my school?

So, any chance that AE+published > EIC+not published? If it came down to two candidates from the same school with those credentials

Is it possible to publish something in a decent law review not at your own school as a student, like say via an independent study?

Almost never happens. Most reviews actually have policies against publishing notes written by other schools' students.

True but if your note is long enough you can just change "note" to "article" and submit it in the general pool. Not at all unusual for a genuinely good note to get picked up by a law review as an article. Not terribly likely at the absolutely best journals, but still common at good ones.

For no particularly defensible reason, I'd say getting published in the flagship journal of any of the top 30 or so law schools is pretty damn good. Those journals get cited regularly in top flight scholarship.

Credited. Also, for academic hiring, they discount peer-reviewed publications. Same for tenure. Law review pubs are what matter.

I am not sure about the discount thing.

peer-reviewed publication are impressive actually.

a lot of law review/ journals do have some kind of review, sometimes it's internal + external.

my family professor published numerous articles in american journal of family law ... i think they have some sort of review system, but it's the general editor's approval that carries the most weight.

Published twice in the last year. In about 2/3 interviews I get questioned (more like grilled) whether I'm gunning for academia. Ridiculous.
