These are the minimum "safe" thresholds for having a good shot at realistically securing gainful employment at the decent firms that PROBABLY won't fire your faggot ass, LaTTTham style, six months into your first year. (AKA, the only law jobs realistically available to you as fresh graduates that are actually worth the trouble.)
Yale: Safe (minus maybe bottom 10%) Stanford: Safe (minus bottom 25%) Harvard: Safe at median and above. ---
Columbia: Top 25% (LR), Top 20% (No LR) to be safe. Chicago: Top 20% (LR), Top 15% (No LR) to be safe. NYU: Top 15% (LR), Top 10% (No LR) to be safe. --- The rest of the T10: Top 10% (LR) to be safe. --- The bottom of the T13: Top 5% (LR) to be safe. --- GULC: lol
--- The rest of the T20: Top 2% (LR + strong connections) to be safe. --- The rest: Never, ever, safe.

LaTTTham-like exceptions aside, firm rankings are generally probably a pretty good proxy for evaluating the health and long-term stability of any given firm. If I was looking for a firm job and didn't give a fuck about prestige or exit opportunities I would still absolutely take my chances at a random V10 over a a random V50 any day of the week, regardless of whether they both pay the same, if I had the opportunity.
The real benefits of going to a highly ranked firm ITE aren't limited to ephemeral internet "prestige" or whatever, hoss. |

Disclaimer: This thread is somewhat meanspirited flame but forreal, I think OCI this year is going to get ugly and I don't think anyone, including employers, really knows just what that "means" at this point.
I could see Top 25% Gtown getting V20, depending on how well you interview and what markets you're looking at. V50 is a strong possibility. V100 is assured unless the legal market totally tanks and everyone gets fucked or unless you're a social retard or IRL niggerthread in the interview or something like that. You'll get a market job if you want it and aren't too tied down to one tough geographic market (ie "Only D.C.", etc). Honestly you're grades aren't going to be your problem - your school will to some extent because it's so large and D.C. centered, but you can somewhat offset that by looking outside the D.C. market. Your real liability - if you have one - is yourself. IME, a lot of 2L's - especially the ones who powered right through HS-->Ugrad-->LS - really don't know how to interview. (Maybe you do.) Even ITE, your grades/school will get you in a lot of pretty good doors...but you need to approach every interview with the mindset that employers are quite literally looking for reasons to ding you. If I were you I would take whatever interviewing coaching your school offers and run with it. Come up with plausible, intelligent and coherent explanations for any gaps or potential weak points in your resume (which should be immaculate, of course) and rehearse the fuck out of them so that you could convincingly explain them even if you were interviewed at 3 a.m. drunk and high. IMO, stuff like that might very well make or break you at your reaches. HTH man. |

HYS--top 20% safe, 20-50% will probably be OK. CCN--top 10% safe, 10-33% will probably be OK. People below the top third are probably screwed, but may get lucky. The rest of the T14--top 10% safe, 10-20% OK. Below the T14--top 10 (not percent) probably safe. Top 3-5% OK. (Except a few schools, like UCLA, that will do a little better.)
Edit: Even then, I think this is overstating who well median H students will do.

I will say that I am neither. Honestly dood I'm just being a dick and fucking around with the scared 2L's on this site. The truth is that NO ONE knows for sure what this OCI will look like. I - and many other people - suspect it will be a bloodbath of the kind that the legal community hasn't seen in decades, and I wouldn't be suprised if even XOXO is being too optimistic on the whole, which is really saying something.
