500K. That's plenty. No need to be piggish. Plus imagine having every Friday and late Thur afternoon off (nice long weekend trips) or just working 6 hours per day. 500K goes a long way. Yes pls.

50 hours a week isn't that much and an extra $500k for an extra 20 hours a week is a steal.

there are 168 hours in a week so you'd still have plenty of time to do the things you enjoy doing.

But at 500K I could take 3 day weekends, whenever I want, or nice long vacations if I accrue. The 500K isn't going to buy me much more than I need/want now, but the use of 20 more hours per week is huge, imho.

edit --- i saw the hypo asks for wife and 2 kids, then id have to go for the million. The wife can stay at home and not work and take care of all the mundane things that would add up to 20 hours anyhow.

dude, even working 50 hours a week and sleeping 8 hrs a night, you'd still have 62 hours a week to do whatever you want. that's a ton of time.

Just seems like a few extra hours per day. Not really enough to do anything meaningful. I'd just end up jerking off more.

do jobs like this exist though? this is my fantasy--to make that kind of $$ and to do nothing

i imagine the only ways to make $500k a year and work 30 hrs a week are to do one of the following:

cosmetic dentist (although they don't make quite that much do they?)

owner of a business which brings in a lot of passive income (think car garage owner, owner of a lot of apartment complexes, holder of a very lucrative patent technology, etc.)

own a website that sells something. a guy i know sells plant-based vegan supplements and gets like 2500 visitors and over 800 sales each day.

if we assume the average person buys $15 worth of goods from his site each day, he's generating $12k a day. 365 x 12,000 = $4.38 million. mind you, he only has a staff of like 12 people.

an extra $500k/year would make a tangible difference in the type of home you can buy (in LA, that means buying in a good public school district) that you generally can't break into at the $500k/year income level easily and in being able to save for your kids' college tuition, so i'd go for it. i work 45 hours/week right now and i have plenty of free time to do whatever i want, so 50 would just add an extra hour/day.
