2nd yr biglaw.

No debt, 200k net worth.

Counsel position pays ~100k, 9-5 hours and is located in ideal location. Major university in small-ish state (think Colorado).

Problem: I wasn't looking to leave until year 4 or 5. Would require relocation and wife has good job (100k/yr).

COL will decrease dramatically. Currently living in NYC.

Wife should find comparable job, but make take awhile. She just started a new job last November and enjoys working there. This is probably the hardest aspect of my decision.

Would probably take if you don't like your current job and you like the university (I wouldn't go to some fucking CC or random private debt trap, for example, but are country BIGSTATEU could work). Pay cut sucks but lower COL and better buying power will help offset. Hours are chill and probably serious (you can't find anyone other than a janitor or a student on a university campus after 6pm).

abt 7 attorneys in the office, i would be the most junior. so potential to move up the chain, potentially to GC. i could see myself here for 20 years.

probably forcloses any other in house gig, but would be interested in hearing more about this.

I don't think it forecloses other gigs. It's certainly more respectable than the food delivery in house job that other guy posted. Plus you can probably easily transfer to other universities if you stall in your growth. What do you think your salary at this job would be in 5 years?

I think this is a better job than the one at the food distributor because this one clearly wins on the lifestyle front, but it is not necessarily more "respectable". If OP is concerned about marketability, I would think the food distributor job opens more doors.

Really all of your threads are more about lifestyle choices and trade-offs more than anything. You already know what the deal is: this is a chill job where you can spend your whole career and never stay late or work holidays or weekends. The pay will be far worse as a result. Your wife's career could also suffer. If you're happy with a normal middle class car in a nice college town and a chill job then great. If you're a striver who always wanted to wow people with your 7 series and is willing to work nights and weekends to get it then forget it.
