He is perhaps the greatest athlete to ever play the game. He does more for his team then anyone else is expected to. He legitimately can play all 5 positions. But he simply isn't MJ in clutch situations.

He's not a very good shooter. He just is really big and can drive to the hole and either get fouled or make it.

Not taking anything away from LJ but MJ is on another planet.

that's a bit uncharitable, MJ couldn't block duncan then go to the other end and head fake duncan and then go through him for the layup

This just isn't true. MJ was actually a great blocker from behind, exactly what LJ did yesterday to TD.

not like lebron though, lebron can legit block anybody, last night was more from the side as I recall, but in any event his ability to take over a game that completely on both ends is pretty unique, even if MJ was a great defender

Again, I'm not disagreeing with you. Like I said, I'm not a hater. It is very unique and he was completely unstoppable. Why the f does he wait though? He seems a bit reluctant to take over and establish himself as the best in difficult situations.

idk, I think probably he knows that he can't sustain that effort for 4 quarters and has gotten used to cruising on most teams since the heat crush them plus he knows that the heat play their best when one or two other guys get going, him going off like that early would take it out of him and preclude the kind of game they'd prefer to play

or maybe he's just lazy

Could it be that he is just exhausted? Not only does he play an insane amount of minutes, he's playing it against all 5 of the opposing team. It's a bit absurd to expect him to play down low, or guard the fastest point guard alive, and then have enough stamina and strength to score on offense. Bron better develop a low post presence and/or reliable jump shot because when his body breaks down, he will be a fucking wreck.

mj's blocking from behind was legendary. he would jump early, anticipating the big man's move, and BAM

this. fucking this. Spurs were literally bating him to shoot and he just wouldn't. If he really had a reliable jump shot, it would open up the driving lanes for him even more.

I forgot to add - I'm not a LeBron hater. I truly believe people today do not appreciate his greatness. And I want him to win a few more championships. While he completely took over in the 4th quarter of arguably the biggest game of his life, as silly as it sounds, those two turnovers late in the 4th diminish his performance just a tad to me. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but I can't recall MJ ever turning it over when it mattered most.

Of course those turnovers diminish his performance, as do his late misses. His teammates completely bailed him out, first by grabbing the rebound of his missed 3 and getting it back out to him to cut the lead to 2 with 20 seconds left, then Bosh grabbing another rebound of a LeBron miss to kick it to Allen for the tying shot.

agreed. Question now is: Can the Spurs recover mentally and physically from this loss? What the fuck was Pop thinking riding Tim Duncan so hard in that first half?

tbf, lebron's shoting is getting better each year. his last 3 years with the heat, his 3pt shooting has been .330, .362, and .406. the .406 lebron had this year is just barely behind ray allen .419

in fact, lebron's career 3pt pct is .337 is higher than jordan's career .327 even though lebron has twice as many attempts.
