Spending some time with teenagers in my family and to a person they watch HOURS of streamer personalities. Younger ones Mr. Beast, older ones like Kai Cenat, and a million names I do not know. Some began as Fortnite streamers, some as "2K" streamers, some as pranksters, etc. These teens are gathered from all corners of the country and they all know this shit.
They have zero knowledge of scripted TV or movies.
They communicate constantly in references to memes and streamers.
Its entirely replaced scripted shit on screens.
Seems like "The Entertainment Industry" is dead in a couple years if they do not co-opt this shit.

Like virtually everything Galloway writes, this take of his that the OP is recycling is wildly exaggerated and teeming with indicia of ignorance and Dunning-Kruger in full effect. There are roughly 50 streamers in the world that earn more than $1M a year and most of them have large staffs and production budgets, agents/managers that are all taking pieces of that pie. It’s a wildly unequal economy that also captures the segment of the audience that has the fastest viral velocity and the highest view hour counts, so there are lots of misleading metrics suggesting that YouTube and Twitch are taking over media. But in reality you have a lot of people who are the least valuable eyeballs in their demo racking up millions of hours of viewing and spiking engagement metrics because they are the segment of the audience that is the most idle (and least capable of spending money). Like with so many other things these days, boomers and elder Gen X are trying to understand a new form of media using their 20th century frameworks like the “money demo” and any online audience data that they resembles ratings to them. In reality in 2024 it’s almost completely irrelevant to think about that “young people” or 15-34 year olds are doing. The only money available on that basis comes from dumb old boomer ad buyers who are completely baffled by online ads and ad data. The future of media is in targeting and aggregation of data from multiple platforms to increase actual conversion rates, and while this has been true on websites for 20+ years it’s a new reality for Hollywood boomers, most of whom are making it their fundamental goal to resist this change in any way they can come up with.
But the future of media looks much more like TikTok fighting with the record labels and trying to make their own music publisher. Or AppleTV and Amazon failing where traditional studios are now slowly succeeding and pulling away, while the studios were also fighting off various massive threats to their other core businesses and navigating an extremely long work stoppage caused by the strikes and still rebounding from a global pandemic that was catastrophic to many of their core businesses. All that said, the Tech companies are still considerably wealthier and have much deeper expertise with all the ad business modernization that Hollywood is trying to build as a second deck on top of the plane they’ve been flying for the last five years. But for Lina Khan and the strikes we likely would’ve already seen the first Hollywood-Tech merger and if Trump wins in November I am sure we will see 2-3 before 2028. Hollywood will never be the cultural focal point that it was for the ~90 years between the late 1920s and the peak of capeshit in the 2010s, but it will be MOAR profitable/less unionized and will be run like Tech where there will be immense cost scrutiny in down times and a data-based economy/strategy default that will create a massive oligopic moat and allow Tech to sell as much crap as possible to American consumers in the most effective way.
