products more expensive --> less people buy products --> economy is slower --> companies cut back on ad spending --> advertise less on instagram/Facebook

i had 500 shares of meta which i bought in 2023 lows

trimmed 250 of it, letting the rest ride

meta is going to get gang banged for at least a few years thanks to reduced ad spending

No stocks are completely impervious to indiscriminate selling. companies aren't cutting ad spend on meta so long as they remain in business

I continue to think meta is the overall best public company in america in terms of economics. It's like what a bunch of finance professors would create in a lab

Can you elaborate on the last part? Intuitively that sounds correct, but what exactly would make it a perfect company for finance profs

Enormous moat - online ads are a permanent duopoly. No one other than Google comes close in terms of return on ad spend

High gross margins. This isn't a car company - they almost nothing for every incremental dollar of revenue

Low capex/huge cash flows - they can invest almost nothing in the core ad business.

Explosive growth - they somehow still grow 20% per annum by finding new ways to monetize growing base of daily active users

High upside bets on AR/VR and AI made by a world class capital allocator. Mark Zuckerberg has plenty of flaws but making $$$$$ isn't one of them. Just buying Instagram for $1 billion puts him in the CEO hall of fame imo

Compare this story to like Tesla (cut throat competitive industry that's super capital intensive and potentially saturated)

Understand something very clear that the "reasoning" behind any of this doesn't matter and never does. The bubble is popping. What popped it and why and the exposure to it are irrelevant. It's all coming down.
