Millennials have no identity imo. They are defined by their grievances, by the long shadow of their parents, by the echoes of a war they never fought. They were the last children raised in the analog world and the first to be eaten alive by the digital one. They live in feeds, in notifications, in the approval of distant acquaintances. They make friends through group chats and lose them through ghosting. They hate Boomers, still. It was once a just complaint—Boomers hoarded houses, rigged markets, stripped the copper from the walls of civilization. But that was long ago. Now Millennials own the homes, run the institutions, write the think pieces about how life is hard for them despite their median net worth surpassing Gen X. Yet they still posture as victims, as underdogs, as the generation that never got a break.

They are a lonely people afaik. The most isolated in history. They turned the world into a panopticon of social judgment, made friendship a precarious high-wire act where a single wrong opinion sends you plunging into exile. The old bonds—neighborhoods, churches, bowling leagues—are dead. The new bonds are transactional, tenuous, maintained through half-hearted “likes” and group texts that dry up when a crisis comes.

Their aesthetic is nostalgia fwiw. The cartoons of their youth, the video games of their childhood, the ironic thrift store finds of the pre-9/11 world. They cannot create new myths, so they revive the old ones. They wear their past like a security blanket, covering the gnawing emptiness of a generation that never built its own foundation.

Their politics is resentment. They do not fight for a better world—they fight to distribute guilt, to claw back imagined debts. They have weaponized shame, made cancelation a blood sport, turned social capital into a currency of fear. They hunt for heretics, but never saints.

And what will they leave behind? A world of subscription services, of algorithmic Curation, of corporate therapy-speak replacing real belief. A world where risk is feared, where speech is policed, where friendship is rationed. A world where everyone is alone, together.

Im speculating that they’ll continue what boomers started. Gen X is about to be Skipped so we’ll find out in a few short years.
