Date: March 12th, 2026 9:05 AM Author: dupa We did nothing this year for Purim. Usually my mom hosts a get together for all the grandkids. She'll make hamentashen with them and then tell them the story of Purim while we all stuff our faces. I think schedules just didn't really align this year.
I'm hosting pesach for the second consecutive year. We do a fun little 30 minute seder. My brother leads it, as he's basically the rabbi of our family.

30 minutes of Haggadah or the entire Seder with eating? Can’t imagine a fat Jew like you eating for less than 30 minutes on a major holiday! What foods are you doing?
Purim was 180. At night we obviously heard the Megillah and then broke the fast of Esther with a 180 Italian meal of caprese salad, pesto gnocchi and tiramisu. In the morning wife and I heard the Megillah again, then we drove around for 3 hours dropping off Mishloach Manot to friends and shmoozing. Then we had our seudah (feast) — an antipasto salad, another caprese salad and hamentaschen pizza (both pesto and marinara versions). Drank a lot and was too drunk and tired to fuck. |

What does the springtime have on your mind? We are getting the kids ready for swim team. I'm hoping my son can move over a lane or two, closer to the true dolphins and away from the flounders. For my second son and my daughter, this is their first year on swim team. I need to mow my grass. The lawn is full of weeds. It looks like crap. My insurance company still won't pay my claim from the tornado. And on and on and on it goes. L'chaim! |

Somehow I feel less excited about that than I have in years past. I feel a little guilty about that feeling to be honest.

My kids really aren't sports oriented and never got into soccer. I have a cousin who has a daughter that is playing soccer at an elite club level in HS. They keep saying she has been getting recruiting interest and may have a D1 scholly berth. Everyone in the family is extremely proud of her. My kids enjoy the pool and my wife enjoys the opportunity to socialize with the swim families. Also, it seems like it's pretty open to newcomers. I'm just hoping my kids can move over a couple of lanes this year. I want my son to care about something and try. |

That's been my mantra lately. Doing more observing than pushing to see what each kid gravitates toward and is passionate about. Like you said hopefully that spark is in them. I don't even really care what the thing is as long as it's not nothing.
