Rush requested from the government 'a significant quantity of foreign currency and tens of millions of dollars in gold bars for work-related expenses' between November 2025 and March 2026, the court papers say.

Rush, who is described as a 'Senior Executive Service level' employee, received the currency and gold bars.

The affidavit does not reveal why Rush would need such a large quantity of gold and money.

He faked getting two degrees to get hired & now he's doing basically the dirtiest ops that our government is behind?

BIGFED employee here. This guy had a TS/SCI clearance and was likely polygraphed tons of times. The background investigation for a TS/SCI clearance is the most comprehensive of the federal background investigations and can easily take over a year to complete. But somehow, and (to me) very unsurprisingly, they didn't do basic education history validation as part of this "very serious" investigation, which is hilarious considering that they will interrogate you over who exactly you smoked weed with that one time four years ago at a party. Lmao. Also Ljl but not surprising at all that it took them two fucking decades and an 8 figure fraud to get them to validate his education history and other lies. Incompetent, stupid, bloated, bureaucratic federal government is just as stupid as you'd expect.

Also given the amount of money involved here, this was not a fake payment for intel from one person but likely some fraud involving a political/military group.

lmao at him faking having gone to Clemson

if youre gonna lie, why not go big

also a TS/SCI isn't that rigorous compared to background checks in the private sector. the DCSA is just slow and bureaucratic.

a private organization could do it in a few weeks and be more rigorous

My first federal background investigation took over two years, and it wasn't even TS. I made a Privacy Act request after they finally finished it and IIRC it looked like they did about a month of actual investigative work, but that BIGFED BUREAUCRACY spread that work out over a two year period. Retardedly inefficient.

This is the public sector version of pay $5000 to go to law school then become a biglaw partner in 6 years billing 1400 hours hanging around an office of all-male attorneys with all-female support staff. Really gets me how much the ladder has been pulled up. Current entrants in the job market could NEVER hope to do a 40mm gold bar government fraud. And AI is only going to pull the ladder harder.

This is an even wilder story than this description makes it sound. It sounds like the guy lied his way into the CIA which makes our CIA look ljl levels of incompetent.

Seems pretty crazy to store 600lbs of gold at home. Your freedom is worth more than the money.

At the same time, not sure where I'd hide 600lbs of gold.

For context, if you were to turn 600lbs of gold into a single cube shaped bar, it would be 9.5" x 9.5". Literally smaller than most of my dildos.

It's not per se the size (although that does sound a bit smaller that what I mentally envisioned).

It's more that if you you put it anywhere with your name on it and they search it, you're fucked for life.

So maybe you do something goofy like rent a storage unit under an assumed name. Prepay the lease for as long as possible, set up some kind of monitoring. Or simply just bury it in the woods.

Even that could get tricky. $40M is a ton of money. Every day, there's a chance you may just die in a sudden manner. You practically owe it to your heirs to somehow notify them that there's something valuable buried somewhere.

Good friend of mine who's a perfectly upstanding (White) guy who never did drugs and very mentally normal / stable spent years getting turned down from various fed jobs because he kept failing the background checks and he could never figure out why. (This is after he spent 4 years or whatever as an officer in the military, reaching captain before moving to reserves and now I think he may be whatever rank is above captain in the reserves).

Was def rejected by the FBI, and at least 2-3 other agencies, but not sure which ones. If I recall correctly, each time it was when he made it through the normal hiring process and was in the final background check / psych testing stages.

Really makes the situation with this guy seem even more insane.

(Ended up getting an MBA and now is a product manager or something similar at a big tech company) Edit: Fuck it, its Amazon.
