people at the TTTop are TTTaking all the $$$ and living the high life? I don't understand how people can get themselves to live in the system

the only conclusion I have is that (1) the will to live is too strong in people so they don't kill themselves when that is not a bad idea (2) they do it for children which maybe they shouldn't have had (3) pure pragmatism: they're alive and need money and that's it

Why? Will be worse off than parents. Will suffer, greatly. I think you can make a very compelling argument they shouldn't have the children as a rational move.

So you have the kids and then you're in a financial prison for 40-50 years, most of that involves working and being humiliated, physically/emotionally beaten down, and the other years are you supporting the children where you probably still have to continue working

it's not like the old days when you'd work in a strict 9-5, have a pension, have a clear community and path

Plus, there's NO RISK.

Being a wagecuck is a great deal as long as you're smart enough not to work in a sweeatshop.

A lot of people are coasting. Work a few hours a day at most and leave at 5 on the dot. They have work friends or something that is interesting about the job that makes it bearable. There is a difference between being a full wage cuck in big law working 80 hours a week and constantly stressed and "working" 40 hours at some comfy office job where you can workout over lunch or go out to eat with your work buddies.

How many hours were they working though? My point was a flexible 40 hours a week with half the time spent not working is different than 70+ hours working with fire drills and little time to screw around.

https://www.inc.com/melanie-curtin/in-an-8-hour-day-the-average-worker-is-productive-for-this-many-hours.html

That's right--you're probably only productive for around three hours a day.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average American works 8.8 hours every day. Yet a study of nearly 2,000 full-time office workers revealed that most people aren't working for most of the time they're at work.

The most popular unproductive activities listed were:

Reading news websites--1 hour, 5 minutes

Checking social media--44 minutes

Discussing non-work-related things with co-workers--40 minutes

Searching for new jobs--26 minutes

Taking smoke breaks--23 minutes

Making calls to partners or friends--18 minutes

Making hot drinks--17 minutes

Texting or instant messaging--14 minutes

Eating snacks--8 minutes

Making food in office--7 minutes

This is particularly good news for freelancers

Plan A: Small business. I’ve been kicking around a few ideas for a while now and this year I’m going to actually implement one.

Plan B: Buy commercial real estate with wife’s inheritence money.

I think I wouldn't mind if I were a higher level executive, so my hope is either something like your plan A, or my plan B which would be to start enjoying something about work

I see so many CEOs and executive workaholics who could easily cut back, but I think they get off from it, and not that I want to be that way, but I'd prefer to manage people and be highly paid, at least give me something to do each day

I’d get a lot more enjoyment from working if I were in a higher level, big picture type position, with actual responsibility and autonomy. Problem is, that means kicking ass at meaningless lower level work to make it to the next stage of the rat race. Moving up the ladder isn’t an option for me.

Plan B for me is actually go back to school and earn a credential that will make it possible to work for myself while earning money buying, remodeling, and selling houses. I’ve got all of the skills and tools necessary for nearly all of that work. I’d do the high value, high skill stuff myself and hire day labor for the rest.
