A lot of us are like 80% sure we can just tell people they’re idiots, do whatever we want, skip performance reviews, neg our worthless boss etc and it’s nbd but don’t want to take the risk. At least try to live with some semblance of self-respect before you go running to your bunker. Otherwise it just seems idk, avoidant. Like just miserly and Losery.

I think a family vacation or two per year is nice with the kids. When they're older and have families of their own, I'll want to go see them.

I definitely do not see the point of just travelling to Europe when I'm older to go on a tourbus cruise around the city or whatever. That seems like an unbelievably stupid waste of money.

Retirement is also not that realistic for me if I don't get my weight down and change my outlook on life. All the studies say that overweight people with health problems like mine and bad attitudes die in their 50s. I want to work until I'm 75 at the youngest.

When I was a kid, I didn't get to choose exactly what I ate or drank. I pretty much had to follow whatever was being made for me. As I became a latchkey kid, I had more choice, but I was still limited to whatever was at home. As I got older, I could eat whatever I wanted, but maybe I was cost limited. Now, I could afford to go eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted all day every day. But I don't want to do that. I suffer from severe obesity and eating makes me feel ashamed and I actually have anxiety about eating around other people. So it's very bad. I try to avoid eating whenever I can.

Retirement is very similar. People convince themselves that their are all these constraints on their time and energy that prevent them from doing the things they want to do. But in reality, those people cannot think of something better to do with their time. Endless recreation may be okay, I suppose, if you have a strong community around you. But if you're off by yourself, not working can be terrible. This couple appears to be isolated in the middle of nowhere. They don't spend money on anything and are shut ins. This is horrible for quality of life. And, if they keep this behavior up, they will eventually develop anxiety around going out and living their lives and having new experiences, just as I have anxiety around eating any meal.
