Date: March 2nd, 2021 8:57 PM Author: heady sick stage grandfather left spain and came to PR. he never talked about the family he left behind since he was basically a teenager and seems to have escaped some bullshit. had a boatload of brothers, sisters, cousins in basque country. they are keen to meet and we've traded pics and they have a family facebook group. ive shared pics of my grandfather and our family and they seem truly grateful. i look forward to meeting since i take after my grandfather and in turn i look closely related to these basque folk. its kooky.
edit: they found not one, but several of us. and i must say the algo seems to be on point. every contact was really family i knew about in some way. |

I was matched with Italian side of family on the East Coast. They claim were not related based on great grandparents names I gave them, but surname and DNA match. They did not want to go into detail. Insane how people suck in that part of the country no matter what. |

By like 2015 that stopped for whetevever reason and I havnt had anyone reach out in years.

23andme give much more accurate ancestry results.
They seem similar to me in terms of the number of relatives that show up.

Mom was born out of wedlock to Irish Catholic trash and immediately adopted by unrelated wealthy family with no children of their own and not a lot of relatives. She didn't even know the names of her birth parents. So for my whole childhood I had not much in the way of uncles/cousins on that side.
She got on the DNA sites and unsurprisingly no-birth-control proles with low impulse control went on to produce like 15 half-siblings for her with various partners. They are all hilariously trashy - like raging alcoholics and pill-poppers, ex-cons, people who paint their faces for sporting events, etc. She is by far the most successful of all of them at escaping prole life. Interesting nature/nurture data point. |
