Why get the latest phone? others are 90% as good for ~$500 less

EDIT: EXAMPLE: iphone 5 came out, buy for 200 and sell for 800 (even 1000 if in the first few weeks). Then buy Galaxy Nexus (arguably an even better phone, 90% as good as S3) for 150-200. |

Within a few weeks of release you can make even more, people will pay 1000+. |

But for whatever reason, thousands upon thousands are sold on ebay far above those prices every time there is a new phone released. I don't know if it's phone shortages or people just being stupid/lazy or what. |
