No, they would have built a fuel tank that works.

https://pp.vk.me/c631916/v631916431/4895c/qf6cExw0cws.jpg

This is one of the new MiG-29K's on the Kuznetsov aircraft carrier. 4 1000 liter fuel tanks AND a gigantic M-400 radar rec pod! That is a SICK payload especially for a jet taking off from a carrier with no catapult. They are using it to spy on Norway right now but in Syria it will find targets for airstrikes.

The ones that have the tank issue need to be stripped down and engines rebuilt to clean out the crap they ingested from the fuel tanks. That will cost a fuckton of money per air frame and involve a a lot more time and work than just switching out the tanks, bro. Those jets will be down for weeks.

It should bother you that Russia builds a better fighter for $100 billion than you do for $1 trillion. At this point even the Western press has impaled itself on the PAK-FA's cock.

Is that the same PAK-FA that Alexander Zelin, then chief of the Russian Air Force, admitted was "inferior to American fighters of the same type." The same PAK-FA that's been publicly criticized by India - Russia's partner in developing and financing the project - for having an unreliable engine, poorly engineered airframe, inadequate radar, and for costing far too much? The same PAK-FA that has a radar cross section three orders of magnitude greater than that of the F-22? That PAK-FA?

One of Russia's Sukhoi T-50 prototypes had a very bad day recently, catching fire at the end of a test sortie and the resulting damage is pretty horrific.

It is not clear what exactly caused the fire, but the PAK-FA program, although appearing to be moving along swiftly, has its issues, and India, the partner nation in the program, it not happy with the design.

I had my doubts as to the aircraft's low-observability right when the airframe was first unveiled, especially considering the engine's first stage fan was not even shrouded from line-of sight in any way. Still, low-observability is not everything when it comes to survivability on the modern air combat battlefield, and it will be even less-so in the future. Yet even for a less aggressive "balanced" low-observable approach, the T-50 in its present form is lacking.

So many people love the Russian fighters, especially the massive Su-27 Flanker and its many derivatives, but the aircraft's avionics, and in the T-50's sake its design philosophy, craftsmanship and material science, simply to do not come close to parity with American designs.

Military procurement is shot through with waste, abuse and fraud. The only reason for America's preeminence in the world is that the other countries (Russia, China, India, Brazil, etc.) are even more dysfunctional/corrupt/inept than we are.
