So the real game is making yourself like something as much as possible even though it is generally displeasurable, right? By focusing on those good moments, conditioning yourself to be a good wheel hamster, bright side attitude, etc.

It's not about what you actually choose as a career, it's how you think about it.

Holy shit you cannot be serious. Self-deluding coping mechanism to numb yourself from the mediocrity of your shitty job? JFC, no. You should try and find something you enjoy/love doing day in-day out. Just because that concept is laughable to most people doesn't mean you just resign yourself to their life of unfulfilled settling. What a depressing exchange.

Well for one, don't be a lawyer unless you're approaching it 1000MPH with the ferocity of an ambitious go-getter fulfilling a childhood dream.

If you're already a lawyer, then I would invest a considerable amount of time figuring out what kind of lifestyle you want. Work backwards from there and figure out what kind of business happily lends itself to that lifestyle. Then figure out the necessary steps to get there. You'll probably have to save a lot of money and figure out something either entrepreneurial (e.g. former lawyers who own brick n mortar ski shops, surf shops, taco trucks etc., ) or something on the business side that you can finagle your way into.

I think if people reconsidered what's important in life, they could find a way to work very little and maximize enjoyment. Unfortunately, what we value often costs so much that we are required to work more and at jobs we don't necessarily love.

I often dream of a little house with super rustic/country design and a really nice, abundant garden. Ideally, I'd sell some of my produce, do crafts and sell them, or own a small shop that served pastries and coffee or something.

The rest of my time would be reading, writing, riding my bike, and other super relaxing stuff.

It's a small dream, though.

I wonder if people tend to dream big or small.

Yeah, the world needs ditch diggers, etc.

But it doesn't really matter what percentage can do it; it matters whether you can/will do it.

Flame for 99% of people. 1% of people are either born so rich (or marry so rich) that they don't have to work, so their "jobs" can be utter nonsense like "art" or "writing" or whatnot, or they are so talented/lucky that they can turn their hobbies into money makers. Otherwise? We work for a living, that is to make money. We try to do this in a way that is minimally miserable while making maximum money but it all generally sucks. Law? lol. Medicine? Geez. They're all well paying jobs that still, well, suck.

Working on your passion taints the passion. Even tenured profs don't just get to mentally masturbate to their favorite topic all day: they manage grad students and undergrads, teach classes, write grants--all tedium.

Starting to think it's just flame. Best to do something tangentially related and mentally stimulating that's prestigious and pays well, like being a doctor, I guess.
