so musk has a choice -- he can capitulate 100%, in which case why he did buy twitter? and his $44 billion investment will be worth $8 billion forever. or he can fight back hard, which will in turn put tesla and spacex at risk. tesla relies on governmental subsidies and shitlib approval, and spacex customers is basically just the united states government

I think that there is almost 0% chance that he "succeeds" in the sense of earning more on a $44 billion investment than he would have earned by putting $44 billion into VTI. But that is mostly due to the fact that he paid a ridiculously inflated price. And I don't think he bought it primarily as an investment, either.
If you define it more narrowly as "turning Twitter into a profitable business," I think his chances are much better. For all the shit he is taking in the media, he has a lot of smart people with experience in the tech industry advising him. And he does have a track record of building successful businesses.
Having said that, the best thing he could do for Twitter right now is to learn to shut his mouth. When you allow a massive increase in "n-tweeting" and then tweet conspiracy theories about Paul Pelosi, you are going to scare away potential advertisers. And threatening to blacklist companies that are reluctant to do business with you is a very poor way to bring them back. Maybe he will be able to turn a profit with a pure subscription model, but right now basically all of Twitter's revenue comes from advertising. So pissing off your sponsors is probably not a great idea. |
