Newsom and Whitmer have been running shadow campaigns the whole time, Biden shat the bed, everyone knows he needs to be replaced, and Newsom's odds in particular shot up.
Within 24-48 hours, there was backlash from the second group to the mic (Blacks) who are the most important block in the Democratic party. Can't pass over Harris. Newsom's odds went right back down, as did Harris's, and Biden's went back up. Also Biden made it clear that if he was going to back off, Harris was next in line. It probably helped that Harris immediately came to a forceful defense of Biden right after the debate.
Now the UMC libs seem to realize they can't force Blacks to go with Newsom or Whitmer or Shapiro, so they are reluctantly going to back Harris. We are getting a growing stream of Biden-neutral sentiment from elected D politicians, joining the press that was already questioning his fitness. Still waiting for the big dogs to stab Biden in the back, but people are sharpening their knives. |
