i have no prediction just like i cannot predict the weather on 11/03/2026 yet. we are *TWO MONTHS* into the congressional term. i think anyone making serious predictions right now is foolish.
if pressed, i think trump's policies over the next two years are going to be good and the GOP will do well in the midterms. that's why i voted for trump. if they don't work out, or if there is some intervening event like ITE or COVID, then they'll do poorly. two years out all of this is uncertain, just like how trump was ahead pre-COVID in 2020.
are you really looking at a mild stock market swing (which happens multiple times under every administration, including biden who had a bear market for a whole year in 2022) and thinking anyone will remember this in 2026? if the tariffs crash the economy and this is just the beginning, sure. but if you're sure that's the case i'd like to see the millions of dollars of LEAP puts you've purchased.

Two possible comparisons are Reagan in Term 1, had a mild recession early in first term and was clobbered in the midterms but economy then took off due to reforms enacted in his first two years and major landslide in 1984, the last real landslide in American presidential history.
Similar with Thatcher. She came in power in 1979 and made significant fiscal and structural reform that saw short term economic pain but afterwards the UK economy took off and there was no going back.
I can see something similar happening. The admin seems serious about a genuine restructuring and resetting of the US economy away from trade deficits and greater industrial base and will accept short term pain. Beyond that who knows.

that's my point: two weeks ago people loved trumps first month and now because of a minor market swing many say the sky is falling.
no one is going to remember any of this in two years unless this is the beginning of a larger trend. swings like this happen frequently during ever admin. if the market rebounds, as it usually does, no one is going to remember a small blip.
people look at a politicians whole term or they look at how things are at the time they're voting. if the market is down 10% the first three months but is up 100% by the midterms, no one is voting no because of that 10%. just like if the market was up 10% right no one would consider that if it's down 50% by 2026.
