Looks to me like Nuuk and Ilulissat are the only two airports in Greenland taking international flights; everywhere else you change in Nuuk and take a small turboprop. Ilulissat is only Iceland Air turboprops from KEF. But the flights to Nuuk from Copenhagen (starting in Nov) are with Greenland Air which only has Dash-8s - all the way from CPH in a Dash-8! edit I was wrong, there is a flight in a real plane from CPH to Kangerlussuaq |

I spent a few years in Alaska trying to catch 180 displays and only really caught them a few times, and only in short 2-5 minute bursts. The first time was in Barrow during polar night in January, where they were danced overhead for most of the night. I heard locals whistling at them.
Second time was near Denali NP. A bro and I drove around looking at the sky for 8+ hours, just to catch a mindblowing 3 to 5 minute overhead multicolored show. One of the most memorable nights I've ever had.
Third time was on a plane flying to southeast to Detroit. I met a couple coming back from Barrow who'd unsuccessfully tried to see the aurora Australis in Antarctica, and were headed home from a failed trip to see the aurora borealis in Alaska. About an hour into the flight they began dancing out the windows to the north. It was a red eye, so nearly everyone was asleep. I got up and shook the wife awake and pointed out the window. She told me it made the whole trip. |
