I responded that there's no society aside from hunter gatherer tribes in which the vast majority of people don't work tens of hours a week for the length of their lives. A chorus of people responded suggesting that I was factually wrong, that it's MORALLY wrong to have to work as much as we do, that our labor is more degrading than farming, or that I was simply a troll.
They're just living in la-la land, right? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

libs generally don't recognize that reality is complex and requires effort and labor to deal with. they're insulated from the reality of the trucks delivering their gourmet ice cream to the whole foods at 6am, or the farmers actually working a field somewhere so that the ingredients can exist for their artisanal bread, or the guys driving vans moving their bike share bikes around to different docks so that there are enough for the morning rush of libs to downtown Libville.
their feelings tell them that everyone *should* be able to have tons of wealth and comfort without effort, and so they manage to convince themselves that that's what reality is actually like. if only we'd tax those ROBBER BARONS enough, they think, then all would be right with the world (the robber barons having most of their wealth in the form of difficult-to-efficiently-liquidate capital in their companies that is serving a vital role in the economy, and not in scrooge mcduck-like vaults of wealth that the libs imagine they could easily seize)

A highly-liked response in that thread reads "We produce so much more than we need that we literally wage war and commit atrocities to create new markets/demand for our stuff."
I just don't get it. Your assessment re: robber barons is probably what it is.

the most charitable take i can give is that libs think life as a hunter gatherer would involve much less work and also be more personally fulfilling than whatever shitjobs they have to work now, and that the benefits of modern technology when it comes to things like healthcare are greatly overstated
the less charitable take is that they just don't like the fact that life inevitably involves doing a ton of shit you don't really want to do unless you make it big as an edgy Twitch streamer playing your favorite game all day long and hooking up with your barely-legal fangirls
