But why are they rich? The elite culture of these countries encourages ruthlessness, lack of ethics, and rampant cheating in a desperate quest to get ahead. This ultimately bleeds over to the professional world, where IP theft and research fraud from countries like India is rampant. The US is a heck of a lot better than our competition and it's a key comparative advantage for America.

Vivek is the perfect example. He became a multi-millionaire through a pump-and-dump scam. That's what he used his Harvard and Yale degrees for. He adds to the "richest ethnicity in America" stat but didn't actually contribute anything of value to this country.

it also doesn't take into account all the non-tryhards who just naturally excel without helicopter parents
sure, you're dimwitted enough that you needed "math tutoring" and "science competitions" to be good at STEM, but plenty of people are talented enough that we can have normal childhoods without any parental pressure and still get great test scores, graduate first in our class, go to good schools, and be successful in technical fields
the problem isn't a culture of mediocrity – it's that *he* would have been mediocre if his parents hadn't pushed him hard

People are really going off. I had no idea people hated Indians so deeply. They’re pointing out the exclusivity in their community, lack of hygiene and monopoly on medical positions and tech jobs. Lots of hatred and envy in the comments and the resentment isn’t just for H1Bs but for Indians in general. They want them all to go back even if we don’t have immediate replacements for their skills. Now when do we get the same screeds for blacks?

Guy is a joke. To dismiss one culture or glorify another without reckoning with the full scope of their realities is not to confront the truth, but to simplify it. He casts culture as a singular arbiter, a monolithic cause for global disparities in innovation and talent. Yet cultures—whether Indian, American, or otherwise—are neither saints nor sinners. They are tapestries, woven with threads of strength and weakness, brilliance and blind spots. He extols the immigrant Engineers drawn to the United States but misread their migration. They come not because America offers a superior culture but because it promises what India, for all its grandeur and grit, cannot yet reliably deliver: infrastructure for ambition, rewards for merit, and a ladder to climb. This is not a referendum on cultural quality; it is the pragmatism of opportunity. And yet, India, with all its complexities, is not the caricature of backwardness it’s often reduced to. Its chaos masks an underlying order—an ancient dance of ideas, contradictions, and resilience. It is a country that birthed Ramanujan’s infinity, Tagore’s universalism, and Gandhi’s moral force. To see it as a mere springboard for talent fleeing to greener pastures is to miss the roots that nourish that very genius.
But let us turn the mirror to America. His diagnosis of a culture that "venerates mediocrity" leans heavily on archetypes: the prom queen, the jock, the sitcom anti-heroes. These, however, are not harbingers of decline; they are stories, reflecting a society grappling with its identity. And what of America’s own caste system, its silent hierarchies? The Jocks and Nerds, Losers and Scumbags—these are but the echoes of divisions as rigid as any attributed to other cultures. Meritocracy, you see, is a story too, often written to comfort the winners. The American sitcoms he names are like 35 years old which is proof positive he's been obsessed with GPA and OCI since the 90s, rendering him hopelessly out of touch culturally, yet in spite of this he feels qualified to Opine on America's "culture." The decades-old sitcoms he dismisses as cultural rot are more than escapist fluff. They hold a mirror to a society that prizes humor, individuality, and self-discovery. Just as Indian cinema weaves tales of heroism and devotion, these shows serve a purpose beyond your binaries of mediocrity and excellence. To read culture through its Engineers alone is to overlook the humanity that innovation ultimately serves.
Culture is not a competition. It is not a ledger where one tallies failures and triumphs to declare a winner. It is, instead, a mosaic, rich in contradictions and complexity. He may argue for a return to hard work and aspiration—and indeed, those are noble virtues—but they are not the sole measure of a society's worth imho.
