Why don't you talk to someone who has actually driven an EV rather than just mindlessly accept whatever nonsense the fossil fuel peddles on Fox News? Do you think that car companies would offer these warranties if batteries were routinely failing? On modern EV's, the probability of needing to replace the battery is much lower than the probability of needing to replace the engine or transmission on an ICE car. Plus there is zero chance of ever needing to replace a radiator or catalytic converter or any of the million other things that can break on an ICE car. There are Teslas with over a million miles on the odometer that are still on the road. Good luck doing that with an ICE car. Overall EV's are much more reliable than ICE cars, which is one of many reasons that they are superior to ICE cars.
And while the range on most EV's are not as good as the range on an ICE car, saying that you can't drive them more than 100 miles is idiotic. I can easily go 200-250 miles in my Tesla without recharging, and I can go 300+ under ideal conditions. In practice, it's entirely a non-issue, since my wife or daughter will need to stop to pee more than once every 300 miles anyway. And it's only an issue 2-3 times a year when I take a road trip anyway. For day-to-day driving, I charge my battery at home every night. I never have to worry about being low on gas when I'm late for work. ICE cars are SPS by comparison. |

If BYD were allowed to sell in the U.S./Europe, they would absolutely gape Tesla's anus. Even among cars available in the U.S., what makes the Model Y superior to (for example) the Ioniq 5? The Supercharger network was really the only advantage Tesla had over its competitors, and that is basically gone now that they are opening it to non-Teslas (plus Elon's idiocy firing the team responsible for possibly their most valuable asset).
And it's harder to say with regards to self-driving, but call me skeptical. I got the FSD trial on my Tesla, and while I was very impressed with it, at this point, it is a fancy driver assistance feature. It is not even close to being truly autonomous. It still can't make it from my house to my office without me intervening multiple times because it took me into a left turn only lane or tried to make an illegal turn on red or whatever. Meanwhile Waymo and Cruise already have robotaxis on the streets with no human behind the wheel. Tesla isn't going to release their robotaxi prototype until August, and who knows when (or even if) it will be ready for testing. If anything, I would say that Waymo and Cruise are far ahead of Tesla when it comes to autonomous driving based on what I have seen.
So who knows? If I really knew what TSLA's stock was going to do, I would be calling my broker rather than sharing my hot tip with a bunch of racist lawyers. But to me, their valuation is way too rich for a company that is losing market share even as they slash prices. |

I don't know why you feel the need to throw a tantrum any time anyone questions TSLA's valuation. I think Tesla is a great company with a great product. I drive a Tesla, and I love it, and I hope that the company does well so I can buy more cars from them in the future. And notwithstanding idiotic decisions like firing the entire Supercharger team, Elon Musk is one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time, so I am reluctant to bet against him. Maybe he will pull a rabbit out of his hat again and the TSLA skeptics will look foolish.
Having said all that, if you are trying to argue with a straight face that Tesla is ahead of its competition with respect to either EV manufacturing/sales or autonomous driving, you simply aren't tuned into reality. Betting on TSLA right now is basically a bet on Elon Musk, pure and simple. And while he made investors in Tesla and SpaceX incredibly rich, he also lit a couple tens of billions of dollars on fire running Twitter into the ground. If you want to shill for TSLA as a high risk, high reward bet on Elon Musk, fine, but don't try to tell me that their valuation is even remotely justified based on fundamentals. |
