I made $60k coming out of LAW SCHOOL as a clerk. I would think a 21-year old dude with a CS degree would be able to compete for a $70k coding job, and that it would be a better option than retail. Do the firms hiring H1bs actively discriminate against local applicants or something?

there are plenty of people here that can do this shit, or could learn to. i know a guy that runs one of those "coding bootcamps" that literally takes inner city dindus and turns them into six-figuremos in 12 weeks.

all importing jeets does is drive down the value of labor, and disincentive people from developing the expertise to do these jobs. if it was something urgent and important, like a shortage of doctors, i'd be ok with it. IT jeets don't cut it.

If we are being honest, this kind of work requires less intelligence than most skilled labor. A plumber doesn't just replace old gaskets for 40hrs/wk, occasionally he has to get out the welding torch and solve problems. This H1B shit requires familiarity with a different kind of technology, but that's it.

In reality it's NEITHER. If you want inner city kids to learn it, start by being honest with them about the work itself and STFU about IQ.

The biggest issue is boredom. No one wants to sit on their ass and do this tedious, repetitive shit.
