Is biglaw in Seattle credited? Who are the major players? Lifestyle? Hours? Dress code? Clients?

First, biglaw is never really credited. Second, salaries in Seattle are not as great compared to cost of living as many other cities of a similar size.

That said, Seattle is a great place in general.

Big local firms are Perkins Coie, K&L Gates (which sort of still counts as local), Davis Wright Tremaine. There are also some substantial local offices of out-of-town firms like Dorsey & Whitney and Wilson Sonsini.

Local firms usually have a 1800-1900 billable hour requirement.

Dress code is usually business casual. Maybe jeans on Fridays depending on the firm.

Clients are a wide range, from startups to local bigshots like Amazon and Microsoft.

microsoft, amazon, a billion software companies, tech companies, communications, etc. huge boeing presence.

not to mention the area is absolutely stunning. if it wasnt so cold all the time it would be THE credited american city to live in past the age of 30.

I kind of like that winters never get much colder than 45 though. All you ever need is a decent softshell hoodie and you're good.

Obviously the grayness sucks... you can make a daytrip to Leavenworth or Vantage and get a vitamin D fix.

seattle is as temperate as it gets. it's barely ever below freezing except for the darkest hours of the night in deep winter.

it's not "cold" unless you're from arizona or some shit. winters in DC and NYC are much, much more brutal. conversely, it never gets stiflingly hot or muggy in the warm months. sorry about your TTT climate.

Belltown is so 2005 little breh. The new trendy area to live (if you want to live in a condo) is South Lake Union or Bellevue (specifically at the Bravern or some of the other newer towers -- that's where the pro athletes live).

yes belltown. if you're comparing identical apartments in both cities.parts of magnolia are probably more expensive. the u-district is pretty close to mfh in terms of offering shitty closets for an arm and a leg.

i don't actually get why anyone would live in seattle proper. there are a million other surrounding places you could live in like a king and just commute. i don't understand why people don't realize you don't HAVE to live right next to/in the middle of the nightlife.

Why do people want to live in Seattle proper instead of one of the surrounding area? That's a ridiculous question. Why do people live anywhere? I'm willing to chalk up that question to it being a rhetorical question rather than the possibility that you're actually dumbstruck?

It's called personal preference. Everyone has different preferences for what they want to live near or far from. I could ask you the same stupid question:

Why would anyone want to live in Manhattan instead of Brooklyn?

Why would anyone want to live on the Upper East Side instead of the Upper West Side?

Why would anyone want to live in New York City instead of Hoboken?

are you a shrew?

the only people i know stupid enough to live in seattle proper when they clearly cannot afford to do so are dumb millenials who majored in liberal arts.

the thing is, all the jobs Seattle is famous for, aren't in Seattle proper. Microsoft is in Redmond...Boeing etc., are elsewhere.

Have you spent time in the area?

It's not Upper West Side versus East side.

It's townhouse with two car garages in one of the best high schools in America (see, Bellevue, Kirkland etc), or golf courses (see renton highlands) versus not-that-mind-blowing nightlife in stupidly expensive neighborhoods.

you know, sometimes i get why boomers can't stand millenials. they can be a truly fucked up lot.

seattle also has an unbelievably credited public transportation system for when you need it and you can easily park your vehicle at a park and drive (for free).

You are wrong little breh.

One word: Amazon.

That's the main reason why Seattle proper is growing and people are choosing to live in Seattle proper. Then there are all the new jobs from the gaming companies and biotech on Elliott and in Fremont.

Amazon's as well known as the others.

What's this flame about Bellevue and Kirkland being more affordable? Apartments there are more expensive than half the cool neighborhoods in the city (Fremont, Ballard, Green Lake, etc.), and with the suburbs you're getting less for your money in terms of convenience.

Kirkland is nice. It's a bit weird, though: 20-30somethings in Kirkland still go out in Seattle, and then you get a lot of proles from the surrounding poorer suburbs coming to Kirkland to party/go out.
