I am an 2010 grad and I just got an offer for my first real associate position, no more contract hourly pay no benefits bullshit. They offered me 75k when I was expecting something like 65-70k, should I even bother to negotiate for more? Will it make me look like a total pushover dumbshit if I don't at least try?

You never ask for a salary increase, unless you notice windfall profits in a prosperous economic climate. Otherwise bite the bullet, take one for the team, and live within your means.

Shitty advice. Unless you know that they don't negotiate, you should ask if there is room for negotiation on the salary. They already have decided they want you. Unless they are overly-sensitive, they are not going to start looking at someone else just because you asked that question.

When I asked, they either said, how about this or no, we don't. They never took away the offer.

I think a higher salary tends to get you pussy, but that's just my theory.

75k seems pretty fair for someone who hasn't even had a full time associate position.

otoh, it really is kinda crazy how much a firm makes off you. you will probably bill around 2k hours, so even at a relatively low rate they are making hundreds of thousands off you.

I thought this thread was going to be mocking all my poasts re. My salary negotiation fail lolz.

75K is good though. I was offered $50K when I knew they could have offered higher- their job ad said so. In this economy, there will be others willing to go for less , and ur salary will increase too. Compare similar salaries for firm type/size in ur city, none of us know anything about ur firm
