Tobacco companies, technically. It's part of the settlement with the states, IIRC.

They also got an effective monopoly out of it too. Something about a tax on non-signatory companies.

I also heard the major companies are saving a lot on competitive advertising, since none of them are allowed to advertise now.

lol flame? Occasional tobacco use is enjoyable and not a serious health risk.

Also let me guess, you're a left wing fascist who supports the right to chop your dick off but not the right to trade a few years of your life for some subjective pleasure.

HINT: this guy has no clue what hes talking about

http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/121/13/1518.full

Light and intermittent smoking carry nearly the same risk for cardiovascular disease as daily smoking.28,29 The dose-response relationship between tobacco exposure and cardiovascular mortality is highly nonlinear.29 An analysis of the dose-response relationship based on combined data of passive smoking, particulate matter from air pollution, and active light and heavy smoking indicates that low levels of tobacco exposure as seen in light smoking (4 to 7 cigarettes per day) has ≈70% of the effect of heavy smoking (≥23 cigarettes per day).29 In addition, the risk of ischemic heart disease in light-smoking men and women aged 35 to 39 years who smoke 1 to 4 cigarettes per day is nearly 3 times that of a nonsmoker

ty for the link, unfortunately that's the kind of data I came up with when I researched this a few months back. I've had prob 3 packs of smokes in the past 9 months, but always find myself caving after 2 months or so of abstinence. I often wonder if I'll ever completely rid myself of the desire to smoke, even though I've never been a heavy smoker (maybe like half a pack a week).

Dude. You are fine at 3 packs in 9 months. Read the study more closely, it's mostly about "light" smokers meaning daily but less than a pack a day. A lot of it is also just pure correlations which are obviously near useless.

Yeah, I mean unless I'm going out every night I never smoke more than 4-7 a day, but 3 packs in 9 months is only because I've been trying to quit. Usually it's a half pack or so/week.

If I remember right though I read a study that defined light smoking as 1-3/day, and they found something like 2x the chance of heart disease, etc.

Right. You are better off quitting because you have been addicted and more regular. You still have the lungs and body of a regular smoker, it takes a few years for all your cilia to grow back and everything.

Like how occasional? I smoke once in a while, probably 2-3x a week overall average.

You have to do MUCH more than this to get any increased risk of the MAJOR stuff like cancer.

But if you have a cold or something even 1 cigarette can have adverse health consequences.

see above. I used to think common sense dictated that you'd have to be right, but after quitting for months at a time, I did realize how much better my body felt. Maybe it's bc I've smoked for like 15 years now and it's starting to take its toll, despite just being a light smoker.

Well it all depends on what you mean exactly, see above. Smoking with any kind of regularity for 15 years sounds like a lot so yeah you should probably just quit.

cigarettes are objectively a public health disaster, theres no legitimate argument against that. morally, we shouldnt allow companies to continue to sell addictive poison.

your obviously a TTT conservaprole, you immediately jump to some other tea party talking point that is not even tangential to the discussion.

Notice that the poster above said nothing about health. It's about "looking trashy and stupid" even though some people enjoy a cig the 1 time a month that they go out to a bar.

It's a mindfuck and I find this attitude very distasteful.
