Like, even if they aren't asking you to do some monumentally cumbersome task, and even when they indisputably pull their weight with respect to housework and child care, it's death by a thousand cuts when it comes to the little shit. Like asking you to do an otherwise admittedly small task, but one that makes you get up from your seated position. Or not letting you have an unbroken period of quiet longer than 3 minutes where you can be alone with your thoughts. For me, nothing creates more cognitive dissonance than the feeling of being interrupted when I'm just trying to sit and think about something for a bit. |

It's once the marriage pressure starts in their late 20s/30s that they go crazy. Watched it happen to my wife and watching it happen now to her little sister. It's really awful, but there are ways to screen and train her, e.g. you start actively carving out blocks of time as either time you need for yourself or time you need to hang out with other people. If she sits home and sulks and gives you shit afterward you have to explain to her that this is a huge problem and a major warning sign because she should want her own time and her own separate sphere of friends. And if she can't get it then you should break it off. I'm trying to undo 15 years of enabling her co-dependency now and it's maddening and an existential threat to our marriage.
