I was told during my interview that I should expect to hear in January. Both of the people I spoke with who received an offer from them last year heard in January. They've checked my references too. I'm not worried just yet. We just got through the holidays.

I interviewed at headquarters. No second interviews mentioned. Since they've started calling references, my guess is that's it for the interviewing. Maybe it's different if you interviewed with a field office?

Maybe. I interviewed with a regional office and the interviewer said that candidates were interviewing all over the country for any office. The interview process and questions were supposed to be as uniform as possible because DC was going to make the final decisions based on I guess the notes the regional and field offices sent about interview candidates. Second interviews sounded reasonable to me for that reason, but it's been over a month since my references were called by someone in the regional office.

Hmm. Maybe they did. In any event, I can't imagine that we're not still under consideration - why else would they have spent the time calling references? Usually, checking references is one of the last steps before extending offers - i.e. making sure people aren't total weirdos, liars, or slackers. My guess is it's just taking the hiring committee a while to meet.

Man, my work productivity is suffering. An answer soon would be fantastic.

Still haven't heard either. I too wonder whether some offers and rejections were extended already. The program brochure says that a first round of offers was supposed to go out before Decemebr 31, with subsequent rounds according to appropriations. However, they did blow past the target dates for interviews, so they may be behind schedule. Anyone have an idea of how many they interviewed? I know 20 accepted last year.

I had a "first and final" telephone interview in mid-December because I am not really close to headquarters or a regional office. My interview was set up on really short notice. I got a call on a Friday and was told the interview would be on the following Monday morning. That day was the only day available to me and I know other people were interviewed at that time. I wouldn't put any stock in the brochure's timeline.

They told me that about 60 people were being interviewed for about 20 positions (depending on appropriations). I am not aware of any attempts they have made to contact my references. I'm assuming I am probably a middle tier candidate because I have practical experience through work and have done very well in school, but I don't have any HUD experience.

I'm sorry to tell everyone that this happened to me last year. Interviewed for HUD Legal Honors, references were called, and then I heard nothing else from them. Ever. Only way I found out I was rejected was a from a friend who called their office to find out his status in mid-January. They told him that if he hadn't heard anything by then, then he didn't make the cut.

My impression of the HUD legal department was that their "Honors" program is somewhat new. They're trying to mold this program to be more like DOJ, but in the past, it was considered more of an "intern" program. Full attorneys hired through this program were called "Legal Honors Interns" a few years ago.

Let's face it, in normal times, the best and brightest didn't flock to HUD. I think they aren't used to such an enormous amount of applicants and I think they don't quite have a professional interviewing process in place. DOJ will send an automated nonselection emails, but HUD has no such tool as yet.

My guess is that they gave the first round offerees a couple of weeks to decide. Once they hear back from the all of the first round offerees they'll decide whether to give out additional offers. Unfortunately the yield on their first round offers is probably higher than usual because of the economy.

Anyone here take the pmf exam? Last year hud hired a bunch of pmf finalists.

If you like to tickle them, you're ok.

It depends on the type of investigation--SSBI, BI. Do you know? (Get vaseline, btw. It will help.)

ssbi is the most intrusive one. Reinvestigation, I think, occurs every 5 years. (Well for me it does.) BI should be every 10 and it is less intrusive.

The following catalog of background investigations is accurate government-wide: http://www.usgs.gov/usgs-manual/handbook/hb/440-7-h/440-7-h-ch2.html

And wikipedia has an accurate description of the scope of an ssbi (trust me): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_Scope_Background_Investigation

I know there's a website where investigators will answer your questions--anonymously. I can't remember what it is. google it.

Subject: All offers made

In case anyone was still wondering, I emailed the administrative assistants at HUD yesterday and they replied today that all offers have been confirmed. So if you, like me, were hoping to hear something--no dice.
