SB is the only UC with a lot of white people left and is in the best location.
Irvine is all Asian dorks who go home every weekend, commuter school basically.
Davis is in the middle of nowhere shitty location.
Santa Cruz is a nice location but lowest prestige of the 4, biggest pot smokers. I think they still have no grades, or they did before at least.
By prestige, SB=Irvine=Davis > Santa Cruz

It’s just good enough academically to work as a safety for relatively high academic achieving but boring and soulless kids, and the campus is completely dead and as boring as any school you will ever see. So it attracts people with certain priorities. If it was the best school my kid got into I would insist he pledge a frat, even though I would likely ban him or at least strongly discourage him from frats at a fun big state u school. I have two close friends who are UCI grads and grew up poor/MC in boring parts of SoCal. They will tell you that it’s fine, but you’re going to want to go somewhere fun for grad school afterward. They are both also very enthusiastic about drinking and drugs and I’ve always thought it was a consequence of going to a boring UG and not getting it out of their systems.

I went to SD and wish i had gone to SB. UCSD is similar to UCI, full of asians, boring social life and the campus is so vast that you don't get to meet a ton of ppl. You meet ppl in your section but that's about it.
SB is way better esp now that college is much more about connections, building social skills, learning to talk to women, all of which are things that are vastly more useful today in terms of being successful then just grinding out a 4.0 at a UC.

there was a lawsuit brought against UC's use of SATs on constitutional grounds. a super rich plaintiff's SJW lawyer who then moved to bench, Brad Seligman, drew the assignment. predictably he ruled that SATs were unconstitutional. lib leadership at UC loved the ruling because it made them do something that politically they couldn't do on their own.
===
Superior Court Judge Brad Seligman said in his Monday ruling that plaintiffs had shown sufficient cause to stop the tests for now because applicants with disabilities had virtually no access to test-taking sites or legally required accommodations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The barriers faced by students with disabilities have been greatly exacerbated by the COVID-19 epidemic, which has disrupted test-taking locations, closed schools and limited access to school counselors,” Seligman wrote.
Seligman added that little data existed to show whether the tests were even valid or reliable indicators of their future college performance. He set a case management conference for Sept. 29.
The injunction on the use of SAT and ACT results will affect all California applicants to the UC system.
“The SAT and ACT are dead and gone as far as the UC system is concerned,” said Mark Rosenbaum, a Los Angeles attorney who helped file the lawsuit as director of Public Counsel’s Opportunity Under Law project. The “historic decision puts an end to racist tests that deprived countless California students of color, students with disabilities, and students from low-income families of a fair shot at admissions to the UC system.”

None of the Cal State's are particularly prestigious if you care about that sort of thing. But the Cal State's are amazingly good for what they are, which is to help B/C students get degrees. Most shitty state schools around the country that admit almost anyone with a high school diploma have a graduation rate in the 40-50% range. The graduation rate at nearly all of the Cal State's is above 80%, even the really shitty ones. If you compare the numeric credentials of the students they admit to the percentage who get degrees and good jobs, they are some of the best schools in the country. If your kid fucked up in high school and can't get into any schools other than a Cal State, there are much worse options.

all Catholic schools. once you include Santa Clara you have a handful of nice, smaller schools, albeit without a lot of intellectual cred.

Also Pomona and the Claremont Colleges. Nobody has heard of Harvey Mudd outside of California, but my recollection is that its graduates have the highest average salary of any school in the country. It only offers STEM majors, and over half of its students graduate in computer science or engineering, so the salary numbers are skewed. But it's still a very solid option for someone interested in STEM.

Sounds like you live in LA.
1*. UCSD
1. UCI / UCSB - depending on social / sports / recreational interests, and how far away they want to be from you, how much cash they have, and if they enjoy driving / want to come home at all.
2. UCSC
3. don't.
