Well, sometimes if you want them to check specific things, they won't do it unless they have a reason to, like alcohol abuse. So you won't find out. The labs speak for themselves. You just want to get the right labs done.

do not tell them the truth!!! probably the worst thing you can do. Many doctors will make a note of that in your file which will insurance pwn you for life. If you ever have to get your own insurance they'll see a history of "alcoholism" or at the very least "problem drinking" on your files and flag you. (sources are docs in family)

Almost happened to me at school fucking health center when I said I drink 3-4 times a week. I then clarified and said 1-2 drinks 3-4 times a week and the fucking dipshit PA wrote down "problem drinking." Had to call up director of health center and go ballistic on her to get it removed.

just some shit. the scary one was regular upper abdominal pain my doctor said was likely my pancreas. full blown pancreatitis sounds fucking awful, and can kill you. that and the intense anxiety that drinking heavily causes. elevated liver enzymes at my last physical, blood pressure higher than where it should be, regular blackouts. i'm not even 30 yet, and i finally realized if i kept this up i was probably gonna die before i hit 50.

Horrible pain in upper abdomen, mine is usually under the left ribcage, come to find out because i created a cyst there, puking, diarrhea, fever. It eventually makes your hole middle feel like it's on fire, about to explode, etc. It's one of the most painful things you can ever have according to every doc. I've had it 7 times or so. You also puke constantly and often have to get your stomach pumped. Your pancreas has to rest for 3-4 days while you sit in the hospital and aren't allowed to eat or drink. It usually turns chronic which is a life of hell if you keep drinking.

I did, only when drinking or the day after, which was pretty much all the time. Zegreid worked wonders I recall.

yeah, my first time was like 10 days. It was the most god awful experience fucking ever. I puked up blood all over the ER floor after waiting for 3 hours then collapsed. Acute pancreatitis can very well kill you and they said i got damn close. I woke up 2 days later having a tube in my throat pumping brown shit out. I woke up 2 days after that and ripped the IV out and tried to walk out and collapsed puking. After that i just enjoyed the IV drugs.

Dilaudid is a godsend. They pumped so much of that shit into me and it still took like 3-5 minutes until i could lay back and not be screaming. The 20 minutes it took them to get there was fucking hell. Repeat this scenarion 10 times in a couple days.

no but i kept getting a pain in my left side right below my rib cage which i remembered you had talked about, which made me talk to my doc, who said i really should quit drinking entirely. that and wanting to drink in the morning, never had that before, has made me put on the breaks. sobriety is hard to stick with though.

it is man. Not that i reccomend it but try some opiates, it was simialar enough to booze buzz that it kept me straight. Although I will admit to starting off with pills and then mixing in 20 beers or so, i realized i was not going to wake up with 120 mg of oxy and all that booze in me after awhile. The pills killed any pancreas pain and kept me sober for the first 5 months.

Did you get your pancreatic levels read? Amalyse/Lipase if i recall? If you have insurance ask for a ct just to look for shit. That's how they found my cyst.

my current doctor is an asshole, and doesn't give a shit about his patients. i did not get my levels read. i'm going to do my best to remain sober while i find a new doctor, and then i'm hoping they will properly test everything. from what i've read, i shouldn't have any problems that i can't recover from, but who knows. i'll ask about the CT and testing my pancreatic levels, particularly if i have any pain between now and then.

opiates are great, i just don't have a way to get any.

Plenty of ways to get opiates legally, just fake injuries and shit, or complain about internal pain. Or you can buy them from people. that's pretty expensive. Also, a lot of people with migraines get them. Do a search for docs in your area that are known to prescribe, you can find a lot online if you look in the right place, especially if you are in a big city.

Switch doctors, and when you see your new one, TELL HIM what you fucking want as far as tests done, you'll pay for them, wTF does he care. But seriously, get a new doc quick and get this done. If it hurts really fucking bad go to the ER, I recall you having a good job so your insurance will cover most of it. There they will check your levels and give you a CT. Best of luck brother, your a nice guy, don't want to see you get hurt.

Anytime man, best of luck and if you have any questions I can make a throwaway email address and post it. From what i read you have some shit going on but you'll be fine brother, just stick it out, and try stay healthy, you don't realize how important that shit is until it's gone, I know i certainly didn't, and it sucks, because the pancreas doesn't repair itself, once it's gone, it's gone.

It's not ideal, but I was a fifth a day + drinker and smoker from 25-30, and 18 beer a night drinker from 18-24 or so. I've had serious health issues and had to quit. If you are in perfect health then you might be one of those guys that can handle it.

Not entirely. I got so bad I could barely sign my name, with the shakes in the morning. I knew it had to stop but i couldn't do it all at once. Kind of switched back to just beer. Got pancreatitis again. Then used painkillers to get off booze entirely. Getting off those wasn't 1/100th as bad as getting off booze, heroin addicts are pussies.

the sweats were horrible for me, even during the day, it doesn't help in live in AZ either. But that's not a good sign bro. Seriously, go get a full check up and if you have insurance ask about getting a ct scan of the area to see if anything is off.

31 years old

3-5 drinks on 2-3 weeknights, minimum. go through long periods of drinking more during the week when i'm pissed off at work or otherwise stressed.

weekends, 10+ minimum spread throughout the day and evening, or if i go out drinking, 20+ for the night. usually keep those down to one night a weekend, but there are always exceptions.

don't work out as much as i should, but no beer gut and lowish (16-17%) body fat. 6'1"/190 not in great shape anymore due to laziness, but i'm plenty active and don't have any health effects that i can tell. full blood panel last year showed slightly elevated bad cholesterol - that's partially genetic but the drinking certainly aggravates it, and i also smoke 10-12 cigs a week. everything else was fine. blood pressure is perfect, no other signs of disease.

i keep waiting to get pwned because i drank much, much harder all through undergrad and law school and have been drinking heavily since i was 16, but so far so good. my hangovers are much, much worse these days, but that's about it.

Do you gentlemen realize that 3 drinks a night is considered moderate drinking for a man? Do you also realize that moderate drinkers live longer than non drinkers? Fingers, I love ya man bit you were drinking way more than a fifth a day to get the health symptoms you describe or you are Asian. Quit being dramatic.

This. I think European men have to drink about three glasses of wine or three drinks every night, and they all seem fine. Americans are pretty puritanical about this due to binging.

Fair enough. I don't do any drugs at this point, but if having three glasses of wine when I get home is some sort of disability, then I may as well killself. Kids are well in bed when glasses two and three are at issue.
