my theory is that many modern Americans (especially including educated libs) are shocked to learn that there are problems that technology and "listening to the experts" can't solve. People are going to get sick and some are going to die and it's fundamentally arbitrary and out of your control. We as a society have completely forgotten this fact. To be fair, it is actually terrifying if you really think about it which is why we prefer not to.

It's clear to anyone with half a brain that portions of the U.S. locked up too early. Now they're opening up, and people are getting infected - just like they got infected in Spain, France and NYC two months ago. The death rates for these areas is still going to be much less than the other places.
