Ya, you can save some money drinking at home, but there is a stigma there and maybe a disapproving spouse and/or kids. Also, most people I know who go to bars are not getting trashed drunk, they are having four or five beers and shot or two. It costs, but it’s not a ton.

I’ll add they often don’t spend as much as you think. If Michelob Ultras are on special that day for $2, they’ll slam 4 and leave a $2 tip. That’s just $10.
