i have a really good offer at a boutique and am almost sure to get an offer from a pretty good midlaw firm. may get one from a lower-end biglaw firm too. my practice area (traditional labor) is in high demand rn.
i'm not sure what this shit is going to look like over the next few years though.
i might just stay at my current shitty midlaw firm and collect $. i'll make around 550k next year if i stay, which is more than the other places will pay me. but this place slighted me.

several reasons
1. Employees know the opening exists. It removes leverage for them to demand more pay knowing that the job is online and getting 500 applications.
2. It keeps a list of people in case there is a need (ie someone quits or demands a nice raise). They want to be able to fill that role cheaply quickly
3. HR needs something to do without all the hiring. So they are valuable by doing #1 and #2
4. Less common, but some firms will repost but drop the salary amounts and see what change in applications that gets. If they can get decent people at below their current rates, they will let some go and replace them with cheaper. But still no new job created.
