no banking experience but know basic finance/accounting through undergrad (corp finance, valuation, cash flows, etc). i have a quantitative degree too (engineering). currently summering at a v10, but would like to start as an associate at an ibank after graduation. what's the credited strategy? when should i apply? where should i apply? cold resume drops on corporate websites? networking with alumni?

is an IB associate > biglaw associate? i've heard the position is pretty lackluster in terms of exit opps (IB associates are viewed as failures b/c they were analysts who either couldn't get PE or HF or are n00bs from MBA or law school like me).

how's the job security of an IB associate? what's first year comp like? would it be better to spend a few years at a firm before lateraling over?

from what i understand, the A-#1 most important thing is to demonstrate an intense interest in finance/accounting. they will ask you questions (some that might be quantitative in nature) that ask you to demonstrate your knowledge about and interests in the market. now, if you've never taken finance, they may ask you something simple that you should pick up reading the financial news ("what are your thoughts on what's going on in greece?") but if youve taken classes, they might ask you something more on-point ("explain how the different financial statements are impacted by a decrease in depreciation").

of course, all of this is only relevant if you get a chance to interview. if you went to a TTT ug or LS you likely will never get a chance. hth.
