Years, ago it seemed Gen X was too young, and we had to pay our dues. Now we're older, have paid our dues, but we're seen as out of touch and like we can't keep up. It's maddening.

I was told I was too young to get promoted, only to see 22 year olds get promoted when I was in my 30's, and now I was suddenly too old.

wall street should lobby for an immediate tax on them for planning to die early. maybe the nursing home industry could chip in too.

Boomers robbed all subsequent generations.

but at least for millennials they have the expectation of getting inheritance from boomers. Gen X not so much. that said, Gen X was a small generation and thus had one of the easiest job markets imaginable.

They were the gen to take the brunt of offshoring. Also you know they literally hired one Gen Xer to replace 2-3 boomers. It was Normal for attorneys to bill like 1,000k hours/year in the 80s.

There really is going to have to be another New Deal. Gen X, Millennials, etc. aren’t going to be able to afford to retire. Raising the retirement age isn’t going to help either.

You should be so lucky to work until the day you die. Retirement is stupid and Amerikkkans should divorce themselves from the idea that they are entitled to or should even desire some “golden” years period of retirement.

Jesus.

When my father had to go to a subacute care facility after his stroke, I learned about how that system works. You either spend thousands per month until you're destitute and qualify for medicaid, or you're already destitute and cross your fingers that you can find a facility that will take you and treat you decently.

I told my sister that if I get to a point where I can't care for myself independently, I'm going to run a hose from my car exhaust to the window and just go to sleep. That, or stockpile meds to do the trick.

I have some savings, but it wouldn't be enough for long term care, and the cost of a LTC policy is out of reach. So my options are: stay healthy and independent (plan A), cross my fingers that medicaid is still around and I can get into a decent facility, or euthanasia. Not sure which is plan B.

I feel like the whole "it takes laughably little effort to support oneself in modernity," thing changed at some point. You have these middle aged white guys who no one will hire, partially because they're Gen X white guys, partially because they're "old." Like Ted K needed an artificial power process. Gen Xers just need a $5000k Medical Bill to break them financially for years.
