At the same time you are allocating the risk based on what you know about the company. You are playing games with purchase price based on how debt or working capital are defined, accounting magic. Every deal is different but there’s always random struggles, either trying to incentivize the next Elon Musk or solving some bad IP ownership issue or figuring out how fucked the company is with some litigation or working with regulators to approve the deal. There’s a billion moving pieces and always more to do. It can be addicting that way because it’s like getting to know everything important that someone else knows on a hyper timeline. You can boil down an exec teams last years to a few conversations. Everything you are focused on is actually meaningful and you are filtering out the noise and making a lot of judgments. After the deal there’s a sense of euphoria but also one of sadness because you are no longer in the fight, no longer living in that moment where nothing else matters, like coming down from a drug and then suddenly things are Boring again (http://www.autoadmit.com/thread.php?thread_id=5565206&forum_id=2#47898849) |

You simply can't imagine the change in stress level going from a firm to a 9 to 5 in-house. And IMO it's more interesting to be a level up the chain strategically, delegating more while still being involved in material decisions.
No one at the firm will protect your health: you need to do it yourself, by just disappearing when you need to. It's fine, it'll take them a while to can you (especially if they're that busy that you're working that much), even if they do they'll offer you generous severance, and you should start looking for other work |
