what's sad is that the previous five seasons of the wire made that same point purely through narrative, but in season six, we actually have a scene where the characters are literally dressed up as marionettes, swinging around on strings and slamming into each other at random.
even that wouldn't be so galling without the bludgeoning narration. "THE SYSTEM HAS TURNED US INTO PUPPETS!"
okay, but isn't that what your fucking marionette scene is supposed to SHOW? why does the chief of police need to scream that line THREE times? |
